Fishing

11 September

Early morning walks

Fairbairns went over the headland to a bay on the eastern side.
Phillips’ walked around the bay to the mangrove forest on the other side and then back across the sand where the tide had gone out.
Every day we have watched two Jabirus come down and move across the edge of the water feeding as the tide goes out.
Walking back from the other side
Incredible experience to be there as the tide is going out, walking on the sand and then in the water as the tide is coming back in.
We actually watched the tide turn.

The water is so clear here too.

After breakfast we headed over to the bay on the Eastern side with Uta, a German lady from Broome who had come up the night before and regularly comes up to escape Broome. We tried our hands at fishing but John caught the only fish and it was too small so had to be thrown back.

We then back to the campsite where Uta went out in her Kayak and picked Snails off the mangroves.

When she got back she cooked them on the grill on the fire and then showed us how to eat them – delicious. We had an interesting time talking to Uta, she is a bit of a comedienne.
