Lots to see and do in nearby Elsey National Park so after attending the Barra feeding at the Territory Manor
we set off to explore the various beauty spots. First along Homestead Road to explore the Thermal Pool, Stevie’s Hole (we couldn’t find out who Stevie was and why a waterhole was named after him, even the locals didn’t seem to know!) and the Mataranka Homestead replica, built for the “We of the Never Never” movie.
Next a drive along beside the Little Roper river to 12 mile yards and a short walk along the botanic walk.
Back into Mataranka to buy some lunch at the local Stockyard gallery – yummy Yuros and a drive out to the warm crystal clear palm fringed Bitter springs, for a refreshing dip and swim.
Off north again to Katherine and out along Katherine Gorge road to camp out yet again on someone else’s front lawn.

Thanks so much Tracy, Chris, Sam and Tilly. You have a fabulous spot along the Katherine River. Sorry we didn’t stay longer. We were tempted to hop in the boat and go for a spin but as usual... places to go and things to do. We did however take the opportunity to wash off some of the dirt that had accumulated on our vehicles and trailers, sorry about the extra dirt load Chris.

Since we were so close to Katherine Gorge (Nitmiluk National Park) we couldn’t pass through without walking up to the top of the gorge to the lookout.
Next a stock up on supplies, food and fuel in Katherine before heading north again, setting up camp in the caravan park at Hayes Creek for the night, ready to set off and explore Litchfield National Park

Just wondering how far into the Gorge you got we went as far as the cliff that they used in the movie Jedda

A few twists and turns and then it widens for a bit with a lovely valley of trees to your right and then goes narrow again... makes sense if you are looking at a satellite image while you read this hahaha
We only had time to walk to the lookout and look down into the gorge. Will go back one day and stay at Tracey and Chris' again if they will have us, so that we can do the whole area justice.
