Savannah Way

31 July
From Lorella we were back on the Savannah Way heading for the Roper River along the Nathan River Road.

First stop the Southern Lost City – what a magnificent site

Lunch by the butterfly springs – we could see why they are called butterfly springs, there were literally hundreds of butterflies there...
and a dip in the refreshing pool there.

Camp that night at Towns River where we went spot lighting at night and did see a crocodile in the river, but only his eyes lit up in the spot light

1 August

Went back down to the river before leaving the camp site to see if the croc was still there but alas no croc sighting.

Back onto the Savannah Way with more dust and dirt.
No wonder it was costing us so much in fuel, the extra load we were carrying!!!! We did get some rain yesterday, the first since we have left, but not enough to wash down the cars and trailers.

Stopped off at interesting sites along the way, lunched at Roper Bar where we couldn’t resist driving across the bar and back.

Stopped to chat to some fisherman who had caught a massive Barra then on to Mataranka, rejoicing when we hit the bitumen about 100 kms out from Mataranka.

No not another lost city - just termite mounds.

Overnighted in a the Manor Van park so that we could utilise the power to recharge batteries, use computers etc.
