and finished with the Tree of Knowledge in Barcaldine, another labour icon associated with that shearer’s strike.

The interim however was an exploration of commercial realities of the wool industry in looking at the only remaining steam powered wool scour in Australia – well worth a visit.
We also saw a memorial to Jackie Howe the wool shearer (who also sponsored TJ Ryan) and visited a rather magnificent old Masonic Hall in Blackall.

We also stayed at LLoyd Jones Weir on the way north. We were amazed at the number of people there, some for quite a while. Nice spot by the water though. Cheers, Ray
ReplyDeleteJust checking to see if you get this comment. I'm having trouble senmding them.
ReplyDeleteIt seems an eon ago now, but looking at my notes, I see that we also spent a night at Lloyd Jones Weir - a nice spot for a first night not in an official caravan park! Just working on the last bit of my trip report ... Happy travels!

Hi Guys,
ReplyDeleteStill haven't seen my previous 2 comments come through. Looking at the "spot" it appears to update every 10 minutes but when you stop for a length of time it quitens down. For example, when you set up camp west of Longreach, the first 45 minutes or so there, there were no updates, then around 17:45, they started coming every 10 minutes again until at least after 2100 when I stopped monitoring. All the points then crowd the map. Just some feedback! I really like the spot! I'll stalk you again tomorrow!
Hi again guys,
ReplyDeleteYes my previous comment just came up. Excellent.
We understand The Spot does update every 10 mins but we haven't actually had the luxury, like you, to monitor what it is doing, or us for that matter!!!!
